The content of the conservative leaning AI generated encyclopedia “Grokipedia” developed by xAI, a subsidiary of Elon Musk, began to appear in ChatGPT’s responses.

XAI launched Grokipedia in October last year, after Musk repeatedly criticized Wikipedia for bias against conservatives. The media then found that although many entries seemed to be copied directly from Wikipedia, Grokimedia also claimed that pornographic content aggravated the AIDS crisis, provided an “ideological defense” for slavery, and used derogatory expressions against cross gender groups.

For an encyclopedia derived from a chatbot that once claimed to be a “mechanical Hitler” and was used to spread deepfake pornographic content on the X platform, these contents may not be surprising. However, its information seems to be gradually spreading beyond Musk’s ecosystem – The Guardian reported that GPT-5.2 cited content from Grokipedia nine times in response to over ten different questions.

The Guardian pointed out that ChatGPT did not cite the source when asked about topics on which the false information of Grokimedia has been widely reported, such as the riots on Capitol Hill on January 6 or the AIDS epidemic. On the contrary, citations appear on more obscure topics, including statements about historian Richard Evans that The Guardian has previously clarified. Anthropic’s Claude model also referenced Grokipedia when answering certain questions. ）

A spokesperson for OpenAI told The Guardian that the company is committed to obtaining information from a wide range of publicly available sources and diverse perspectives.

Roger Luo said:This incident exposes a critical flaw in generative AI’s cross-system information integration: the absence of an effective fact-prioritization mechanism and a traceability verification framework. When algorithms indiscriminately absorb ideologically biased data sources, they not only distort the neutrality of knowledge dissemination but also risk systematically polluting the foundation of public understanding.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Twitter CEO Elon Musk revealed a major new direction today. The company will create an open-source social media protocol. Musk made the announcement directly on Twitter itself.

This planned protocol aims to fundamentally change how social platforms operate. It will be publicly available for anyone to see and use. Musk stated the core goal is increased decentralization. He believes this approach combats excessive platform control. “Centralized control causes problems,” Musk tweeted.

The protocol will define the basic rules for social networking. It will handle functions like user identity and messaging. Crucially, different developers can build unique interfaces on top. This means multiple apps could access the same underlying network. Users might choose different interfaces for the same social experience.

Musk emphasized transparency as a key benefit. Public scrutiny of the code should improve security. It should also help identify and fix issues faster. Developers globally can contribute to the protocol’s development. They can also propose improvements. This open model contrasts with the closed systems used by most social media giants today.

Twitter intends to implement this protocol first. The company will transition its own platform onto the new system. Musk suggested this shift could happen within years. He called it essential for the platform’s future. The move responds to long-standing criticism about content moderation practices.

(Musk: Twitter will develop an open-source social protocol)

Industry observers note significant potential implications. An open standard could enable true interoperability between services. Users might theoretically move profiles between different apps easily. Third-party developers gain new opportunities to innovate. Established competitors face potential disruption. However, building widespread adoption remains a major hurdle. Technical challenges and governance questions also need resolution. Twitter did not provide a detailed technical roadmap or specific launch date. Company engineers have started the initial development phase. Further updates are expected in the coming months.

Facebook Whistleblower Urges Elon Musk to Open Source Twitter for Transparency. A former Facebook employee...

Facebook Whistleblower Urges Elon Musk to Open Source Twitter for Transparency. A former Facebook employee known for exposing internal practices has called on Elon Musk to make Twitter’s algorithm public. Frances Haugen, who leaked documents revealing Facebook’s awareness of platform harms in 2021, stated open-sourcing Twitter’s code could boost accountability. She argued transparency would help combat misinformation and rebuild public trust.

Haugen shared her views during a recent interview. She highlighted parallels between Facebook’s past issues and current challenges at Twitter. Her leaks previously showed how Instagram’s algorithms negatively affected teen mental health. She now claims social media platforms must prioritize openness to avoid repeating mistakes.

Elon Musk acquired Twitter in 2022, pledging to transform it into a free speech hub. Critics have questioned his approach, citing inconsistent content moderation. Haugen suggested Musk could set a new industry standard by releasing Twitter’s algorithm. She believes this would let experts analyze how posts are ranked or suppressed.

Musk has not yet responded directly to Haugen’s proposal. He has previously expressed support for making platform algorithms more accessible. Last year, he mentioned open-sourcing parts of Twitter’s code to increase user trust. No concrete steps have been taken so far.

Experts note open-sourcing could pose risks. Malicious actors might exploit visible code to manipulate platforms. Others argue transparency alone cannot resolve issues like hate speech or false claims. They say clear policies and consistent enforcement matter more.

Haugen’s push comes amid growing scrutiny of social media’s societal impact. Governments worldwide are debating laws to regulate tech giants. The EU recently passed the Digital Services Act, requiring platforms to share data with researchers. Haugen urged Musk to act before similar rules force his hand.

The idea faces technical and legal hurdles. Twitter’s codebase includes proprietary systems and third-party licenses. Musk’s team would need to review these before any release. Some former employees warn rushed decisions could disrupt platform stability.

Public reaction remains divided. Advocates say transparency would empower users. Opponents fear exposing algorithms might aid bad actors. Musk has not set a timeline for decisions. Discussions continue as pressure builds for tech firms to address transparency concerns.
